How to Waterproof Your Leather Gloves with Nikwax®

Fall is the season of transformation—a time when the Whether you’re gearing up for some fun on the ski slopes, or you’re heading out to do farm chores in messy weather, you’re going to need gloves that are up to the task.

If it’s leather gloves you go with, you need to make sure they’re waterproof. Not all leather comes pre-treated with a waterproofing additive. Because they contain durable, stable fibers, full-grain leather gloves are best treated with waxes that uniformly coat the fibers and the top layer of the gloves. While there are many options on the market, we recommend Nikwax® Waterproofing Wax for Leather™.

Steps to waterproof your Kinco® leather gloves:

  1. Make sure your gloves are clean. If they are dirty, clean with a damp cloth, getting any dirt or debris out of the crevices.
  2. Squeeze the waterproofing wax onto the surface of the glove.
  3. Rub the wax into the leather and the seams. A quick and effective way to do this is to put the gloves on and rub them together, as if washing your hands. It distributes the wax equally across the gloves when you do this.
  4. Let the product sink into the leather fibers for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Then remove any clumps or other excess wax with a damp cloth.
  6. Air dry. They should be dry to the touch when you put them on for use.

That’s it! Now you’ll have waterproof gloves that can last up to 10 years with proper care. Pre-treating your Kinco® gloves like this with Nikwax® adds excellent water-repellency while still maintaining breathability and grip.

You can even do a quick test to see how the gloves perform before and after you put the waterproofing treatment on them. Simply pour a bit of water on the glove before and after the treatment. You’ll notice how the water soaks into the glove, pre-treatment, and how it beads up and rolls off the glove, post-treatment.
